I got a lot of similar comments as a musician, specifically "Charlie McCoy is better than Terry McMillan". I even got some saying that I should sound like McCoy when playing country harmonica because he has more awards/sessions and sounding like McMillan would make me unhireable as a session musician. They would also trash McMillan by making rumors about how he got so many sessions and call me an attention seeker for wanting to sound like him.

A lot of guitarists don’t know sheet music. It’s nothing to be ashamed of. But when it comes to WRITING music, it’s a big help. But overall you can be a great player without it
