For more episodes: 🤍 Part 6: IPO...Just Kidding WeWork had spent nine years chasing lightning-fast growth, burning billions of dollars, and expanding around the world. In 2019, the company reached a turning point: WeWork needed even more cash, and Adam Neumann decided to take his company public with a massive IPO. But suddenly, in the span of a few weeks, his plan crashed spectacularly. The almost-IPO flopped and WeWork became a laughingstock. Why do startups fail after MILLIONS of dollars?

"How does your company fail after raising $50MM?" This was a real question on one of our Company Forensics videos. For someone outside the startup ecosystem, the amounts of money these companies raise just seem obscene. Some companies (Uber, WeWork) raise BILLIONS. Even smaller companies deal with rounds in the millions of dollars, and valuations in the hundreds of millions. So why do investors pour so much money into these tech startups? Today, I'm going to tell you why. #slidebean #startups #fundraising Let us improve your pitch deck: 🤍 gn=video-content Sign Up for Slidebean - 1 month FREE: 🤍 Subscribe - 🤍 Live Q&A on Discord - 🤍 Send your T-Shirt to Caya - 🤍 Recommended videos: 1) How to Create a Pitch Deck for Investors: 🤍 2) Seed Funding for Startups: How to raise venture capital as an entrepreneur: 🤍 3) Demo Days: How to deliver a startup pitch deck - 🤍 Slidebean’s Social Media: Twitter: 🤍 Linkedin: 🤍 Caya’s Social Media: Linkedin: 🤍 YouTube: 🤍 Twitter: 🤍

WeWork: Reinventism & Stratospheric Valuations

The story of WeWork, the company that claimed to reinvent the workplace, and which at one point rose to a valuation of a whopping 47 billion $, is the story of technological development in the current stratospheric valuation reality. It is what happens when certain innovative companies are assessed as being worth fantastic amounts of money, based on a number of superficial indicators, which nonetheless seem to be agreed upon by many of the dominant investors. Interestingly, instead of WeWork becoming a cautionary tale about how hi-tech companies are being overvalued in our current financial market, it is being framed as a one-off case which thanks to one person’s strong charisma and perhaps manipulativeness and an unusual set of circumstances managed to slip through the cracks. This framing seems to ensure that no real lessons will be learned from this case, and that the party of stratospheric valuations will go on.

Why did Nokia fail?

Why did Nokia fail? This article presents one of Nokia’s reasons for failure and what you can learn to improve your leadership. A concise timeline of Nokia’s important moments: In October 1998, Nokia became the best-selling mobile phone brand in the world; Nokia’s operating profit went from $1 billion in 1995 to almost $4 billion by 1999; The best-selling mobile phone of all time, the Nokia 1100, was created in 2003; In 2007, Apple introduced the iPhone; By the end of 2007, half of all smartphones sold in the world were Nokias, while Apple’s iPhone had a mere 5 per cent share of the global market; In 2010 Nokia launched the “iPhone killer” but failed to match the competition; The quality of Nokia’s high-end phones continues to decline; In just six years, the market value of Nokia declined by about 90%; Nokia’s decline accelerates by 2011 and is acquired by Microsoft in 2013. Nokia’s demise from being the world’s best mobile phone company to losing it all by 2013 has become a case study discussed by teachers and students in business management classes. When explaining Nokia’s fall many observers found three reasons: Nokia’s technology was inferior to Apple’s; The arrogance among top-level managers; Lack of vision. In order to understand its rapid downfall from its position as a world-dominant and innovative technology organisation, Tim O. Vuori, assistant professor in strategic management at Aalto University and Qui Huy, Professor of Strategy at INSEAD Singapore conducted a qualitative study. The results were published in the 2015 paper Distributed Attention and Shared Emotions in the Innovation Process: How Nokia Lost the Smartphone Battle. The study consisted of interviewing 76 Nokia top and middle managers, engineers and external experts and conducting in-depth investigations. Here is what Mr Huy and Mr Vuori found: At that time Nokia suffered from organisational fear; The organisational fear was grounded in a culture of temperamental leaders and frightened middle managers; The middle management was scared of telling the truth because they feared being fired; Top managers were afraid of the external environment and not meeting their quarterly targets; Executives were afraid to publicly acknowledge the inferiority of Symbian, Nokia’s operating system; They knew it would take several years to develop a better operating system that could compete with Apple’s iOS; Top executives were afraid of losing investors, suppliers and customers if they acknowledged their technological inferiority to Apple; Top managers intimidated middle managers by accusing them of not being ambitious enough to meet their goals; Top management was lied to by middle management who felt telling the truth was useless; Top managers lacked technical competence which influenced how they could assess technological limitations during goal setting; by comparison, the top engineers at Apple were all engineers; Instead of allocating resources to the achievement of long-term goals such as developing a new operating system, Nokia management decided to develop new phone devices for short-term market demands. The experts’ conclusion regarding why Nokia failed to adapt and compete is this: Nokia’s ultimate fall can be put down to internal politics. In short, Nokia people weakened Nokia people and thus made the company increasingly vulnerable to competitive forces. When fear permeated all levels, the lower rungs of the organisation turned inward to protect resources, themselves and their units, giving little away, fearing harm to their personal careers. Top managers failed to motivate the middle managers with their heavy-handed approaches and they were in the dark with what was really going on.

Bootstrapping the smallest Coworking Space with €4k //Pathfinder Series EP02

Welcome back to the Pathfinder Series, where we share real entrepreneurial stories, because we like to see each other suffer. I have used this business model to patiently turn a 3k euro investment into a coworking space business that generates over 100k in yearly gross revenue, in just 2 years time (note: Revenue is not Profit). In order to reach this amount, I managed to scale to 5 workspaces by reinvesting most of the profits and getting a reasonable bank loan. That being said, the business has reached ROI - Learn more about it at: 🤍trevorworkspaces.com More on that in future episodes! I hope the business model canvas and other lessons in this video will be useful to those of you looking to start their own business. Thank you for watching and enjoy! - George Petrov

Zomato Going Bankrupt ? | Dark Side of Zomato | Business Case Study

Invest With ET Money Genius - 🤍 Video Introduction: In February 2018, Zomato became a unicorn startup after raising US$200 million from Ant Financial at a valuation of US$1.1 billion.Later that year, it shut down operations of Zomato Infrastructure Services. In 2018, it acquired WOTU and rebranded it as Hyperpure to supply food ingredients such as grains, vegetables and meat to restaurants from its warehouses. In September 2019, the firm laid off almost 10% of its workforce (540 people) tending to back-end activities like customer service, merchant and delivery partner support functions. In April 2020, due to a fall in food delivery and a rising demand for online grocery ordering amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the firm began delivering groceries and essentials under a service named Zomato Market in 80+ cities across India. In April 2020, Zomato introduced contactless dining at its partner restaurants. In May 2020, Zomato also began delivering alcohol in West Bengal, Jharkhand and Odisha after obtaining the permission of the governments in these states. In May 2020, Zomato further laid off 520 employees due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Zomato closed operations of Zomato Market in June 2020 as demand for food delivery recovered and grocery delivery business "was not scalable". In April 2021, it pulled out of alcohol delivery service citing poor unit economics and scalability. In July 2021, Zomato went public, opening its Initial public offering at a valuation of over US$8 billion. Zomato reentered grocery delivery space with a pilot launch in July 2021, allowing users to place orders from neighbourhood stores under a marketplace model. It shut down the service in September 2021. In April 2022, Zomato launched a pilot of 10-minute food delivery in Gurgaon called Zomato Instant. Between 2010 and 2013, Zomato raised approximately US$16.7 million from Info Edge India, giving Info Edge India a 57.9% stake in Zomato. In November 2013, it raised an additional US$37 million from Sequoia Capital and Info Edge India. In November 2014, Zomato completed another round of funding of US$60 million at a post-money valuation of ~US$660 million. This round of funding was being led jointly by Info Edge India and Vy Capital, with participation from Sequoia Capital. While in April 2015, Info Edge India, Vy Capital and Sequoia Capital led another round of funding for US$50 million. This was followed by another US$60 million funding led by Temasek, a Singapore government-owned investment company, along with Vy Capital in September. In October 2018, it raised $210 million from Alibaba's payment affiliate Ant Financial, which received an ownership stake of over 10% of the company as part of the round, which valued Zomato at around $2 billion. Zomato had also raised an additional $150 million from Ant Financial earlier in 2018.[57] In September 2020, Zomato raised $62 million from Temasek, after previously committed capitol from Ant Financial never came through.[58] In October 2020, as part of a Series J round of funding, Zomato raised $52 million from Kora, a US-based Investment firm.[59][60] In February 2021, Zomato raised US$250 million from five investors, including Tiger Global Management, at a valuation of US$5.4 billion For Business Enquiries/collaborations - collabwithadityasaini🤍gmail.com - My Social Handles:- Join Our Premium Discord Community - 🤍 Instagram 🤍aditya.sainiofficial 🤍 Facebook 🤍 adityasainiofficial 🤍 - Title Contents: 00:00 - Introduction To Zomato Business Case Study #Zomato #Zomatoipo #Zomatofalling #Zomatosharepricefalling #Zomatogoingbankrupt #Zomatobusinessmodel #Zomatoipo #Zomatostock #optionselling #optionstrategy #optionsbuying #stockmarketguide #stocktradingstrategies #marketing #marketingstrategies #Marketingcasestudy #Businessmodel #Businessstrategies #marketingstrategies #businesscasestudy #adityasaini
