Load balancing is a critical part of any resilient high-performance web application. Using NGINX Plus as an Ingress controller allows you to leverage the power of NGINX for load balancing applications on Kubernetes. This September NGINX, Inc are releasing version 1.0 of the Ingress controller solution, making it fully supported and production-ready. In this talk we’ll show how to use NGINX Plus as an Ingress controller: - Deploy NGINX Plus with the Ingress controller solution. - Configure load balancing for a web application using an Ingress resource. - Support advanced load balancing requirements, such as Authentication or Session Persistence, using Annotations. - Fine-tune NGINX Plus configuration using a ConfigMap resource. - Extend the Ingress controller to support any special requirements. - Collect metrics and logs from NGINX Plus. In this API Management track session, Travis Spencer (CEO, Curity) goes over how OAuth is the established method for securing APIs. To ensure a good balance between security, privacy, and developer experience, OAuth tokens need to be managed in the proper way. The Phantom Token flow describes a good practice for sending opaque tokens on the Internet and trading them for JWTs internally by leveraging a capable API gateway. In this session, Travis introduces Phantom Tokens and describes how to apply them to the normal OAuth and OpenID Connect flows using NGINX Controller. F5 solutions, including #BIG-IP and #NGINX, provide SSL orchestration using TLS encryption, which requires a Hardware Security Module (#HSM) and a Key Management Service (#KMS) to execute and protect the cryptographic operations and keys. As more F5 customers migrate from on-premises systems to F5 cloud software such as BIG-IP Virtual Edition and NGINX Plus in public cloud environments, they require an HSM and KMS able to support both environments in order to avoid implementing multiple systems. Multiple systems can be costly, complex, and can increase the risk of security incidents. In this short video, we'll go over how you can take an existing NGINX reverse proxy setup and convert it to load balance traffic to multiple backend servers. NGINX does a great job of load balancing traffic, but that doesn't mean it needs to be complicated to configure and by the end of this video you should see that it isn't complicated at all. In this Application Delivery track session, Alan Murphy (Director, Systems Engineering for APCJ, F5 Networks) and Armand Sultantono (Technical Solutions Architect, F5 Networks) discuss how digital transformation is changing the way that application services are deployed and managed, but one familiar concept remains core to successful application deployments: traffic management. Containerized environments and agile infrastructure tools have revolutionized agile east‑west traffic management while highlighting core traffic‑management issues that remain of paramount concern, such as getting traffic into the environment (data center or cloud) via tools like global server load balancing (GSLB), securing that traffic at the edge based on application logic, and managing egress traffic that may need to access remote services. In this API Management track session, Shawn Hurst (Technical Solutions Architect, F5 Networks) goes over how securing data in your solution is not just a good practice, but a requirement from business owners and customers. Ensuring that your solutions are encrypted across all layers of communication is critical to user adoption. How do you make sure that the endpoints you are talking to haven’t been compromised, or worse, intercepted in flight? Mutual TLS (mTLS) is one of the ways to not only ensure that the data you are sending is intact, but also that the endpoint is the intended destination. In this session, we will discuss how mTLS works, and show how NGINX and NGINX Plus provide authentication of the session, and can direct calls to connecting services. Finally, we will discuss how NGINX Plus, with dynamic certificate loading, can support a more secure certificate handling solution, including certificate replacement via API calls.
