UPDATE: I did create a part2 video where I explain more about the changes I did: 🤍 My Alienware Area-51 R2 is 6 years old and was showing some issues. So I decided to upgrade some parts: - the original power supply was swapped for a Corsair RM1000x modular PSU. - The 3 original fans were replaced by 5 Corsair RGB fans (3 HD en 2 LL) which are now controlled via iCue thru a Comannder Pro - I installed an NZXT internal USB hub. Because the Alienware (msi) motherboard only has 1 usb header, and you need a 2nd one for the RGB. - Instead of the 1 original CPU radiator fan, I installed 2 corsair fans in a push-pull setup. - I replaced my Founders edition Nvidia GTX980 with a Gigabyte RTX 3080 Aorus Extreme GPU - 16GB RAM got replaced by 32GB (4x8GB) Corsair Vengeance pro RGB RAM memory - I modded the Alienware side panel so it has a plexi window so I can see the internals of the system Only the motherboard and CPU remain the same. That will be for a future upgrade.

The unusual case design is typically paired with extravagantly powerful hardware and the Area 51 R5 is no exception. Our review unit featured a liquid-cooled overclocked 18-core Intel Core i9-7980XE processor, two liquid-cooled Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 graphics cards running in SLI, 64GB of RAM, and a 1TB M.2 SSD with a 2TB mechanical hard drive backup. Basically, the Area 51 R5 has everything pushed to its logical extreme even its price. All this hardware and expert engineering will run you about $6,709. The Area 51 is billed as a gaming desktop, but with price like that, and such unfettered power humming away inside this thing, it is wasted to be used on gaming alone. The new 2014 Alienware Area 51 with the Titan Z isn't your ordinary desktop computer. This thing is amazing inside and out with a brilliant design that greatly improves ergonomics and airflow when compared to the traditional rectangular desktop tower. Trust me, this machine won't ever let you down! I check out the framerate of a bunch of games, the Oculus Rift DK2, do side by side benchmarks comparisons, video rendering, bitcoin mining and much more throughout the course of this video and compare how this machine works to compared with the Lenovo ThinkStation S20 which cost about the same price as this machine did 4 years ago. Using a front ODD Motor, from an Alienware Area 51 ALX front bezel, I was able to transplant the assembly into my Area 51 R1 front bezel, which had no motor. This mod was very time consuming, and led me to damage my panel, due to improperly masking the paint. I would not recommend this for the faint of heart, this takes time and a ton of effort to dissassemble both panels, and install a new MIO control board. Not to mention dumping a powersupply upgrade on top, which requires a custom case wiring harness, due to Dell using a proprietary connector for the MIO control board. The whole job took me almost 4 days.
