Roland Verselab MV-1 review from a hip hop producer's prospective! It's an all-in-one $700 MSRP drum sampler, sequencer, synth, & vocal recording standalone unit from Roland. It has eight tracks, multiple effects, tons ofpresets (using the Zen Cores engine!), & tons of drums. You can import your own drums too via SD card or thru the utility options (storage mode). The biggest up side is the built-in mic. It's not the best quality but it's usable! However, it has an XLR port on the back & phantom power (if you plug it up to a power outlet). You can make it portable via battery pack but you'll lose phantom power (and less lighting on the pads). I noticed there's no undo button or a click track when recording (though you could do your hi hats first to solve that). Samplings a bit "meh" in comparisons to other existing machine but it's "do-able". Overall, it's an above average experience that gets better with time. NO MORE AUDIO COMPLAINTS, PLEASE. (yes, we know the talking is quiet, sorry.) I know that people are dealing with this question right now, so here is more info for your decision! More than you would have had otherwise. Since I filmed this, I have re-thought the conclusion somewhat. I will want to have one of both later on! The 707 seems hard to use in terms of Menu Diving (You should also try the TR6S) They both have so many good features that "the right one" for you would have to be decided on a personal basis, but do listen to my detailed commentary with a lot of helpful points here if you like. I was able to think of 3 workflows that you might incorporate or are incorporating in your daily use of these two devices. Each of these samplers carry their own unique characteristics and using them together takes your music to a whole other level. In the video I use the Maschine MK3 and the MPC One but it's all the same, regardless of the exact model that you have. In general, I find Maschine to be more intuitive and simplified than the MPC, while the MPC is super powerful but with so many features and menus it can be a challenge to come up with a coherent and smooth workflow. Of course, the MPC is an excellent workstation and once you learn the ins and outs you'll be fine with it.
