Full highlights from the England Hockey Men's Premier Division: Old Georgians began the defence of their Premier Division title in the East Midlands as the University of Nottingham opened their campaign at home for the first time since they played in the Conference North in 2017-18. As tough as an opening fixture could be for the University side, Old Georgians took just 2 minutes before James Albery opened the scoring, on the way to a dominant 1-8 thrashing. A five-goal first quarter saw Old Georgians take a 1-4 advantage into the break. A double from Sam Ward (FG5, PC10), and a penalty corner goal from James Carson (PC13), gave the reigning Champions a four-goal advantage before Louis Tipper (FG16) scored the University of Nottingham's first ever Premier Division goal. The second half continued in the same fashion as Sam Ward tormented the Nottingham defence by adding three more to his tally (PC39 FG49, FG53) to score a double hattrick and give Old Georgians their highest-ever National League opening day win. Simon Faulkner (PC22 PC32 PC65) was the man of the moment in West Sussex, scoring a hattrick as East Grinstead twice came from behind. The University of Exeter were the quickest team in the league off the mark, with Louis Ridge scoring inside the first minute to stun the hosts into life. Ollie Drummond (PC27) gave the visitors a 1-2 lead before Faulkner ensured his side took all three points and continued their undefeated run against Exeter University in the last seven matches. In a repeat of last season's opening day fixture, Surbiton and Holcombe met again; this time, Surbiton travelled to Holcombe Park looking for a repeat of their 6-4 victory from last season. Holcombe, however, were convincing winners last March when they ran out 3-0 victors over Surbiton at home. Hayden Phillips (FG12) opened the scoring, giving Holcombe a lead they would hold for just six minutes before last season's top goal scorer, Luke Taylor, fired home a trademark penalty corner to level the scores going into the halftime break. Surbiton started the second half on the front foot with Alex Williams (FG37) scoring from open play, before Phil Roper (PC59), on his debut for Holcombe after a successful season in the Netherlands, equalised from a penalty corner. Brothers Gareth and Rhodri Furlong faced each other for the second successive league match, having been on opposite sides when Surbiton played Hampstead & Westminster in the final game of last season. Hampstead & Westminster, having won their last six opening fixtures since they started the 2015-16 campaign, had to stop a Wimbledon side aiming for their third successive away win at Paddington Recreation Ground. Ben Francis gave Wimbledon the lead, with an open play goal, in the 4th minute of the game before Stephen Kelly (PC18) and Samuel French (PC19) put Hampstead & Westminster into the lead with two goals in two minutes. Shortly before halftime Rory Patterson (PC29) levelled the game for the visitors. In the second half, Wimbledon took the initiative adding two more goals through Duncan Scott (FG53) and Ben Francis (FG61) to give Wimbledon their fourth consecutive win away at Hampstead. Beeston, who had gone three opening day fixtures without a win, travelled to an Oxted side looking for the sixth victory in the last seven opening fixtures. Beeston were the fastest out of the blocks, with Olivier Ashdown (FG3) opening the scoring in the third minute. Oxted were pegged back before two goals either side of halftime from Jonathan Lankfer (FG32) and Chris Webster (FG45) gave the home side the victory. Another six-goal thriller was played out at Sonning Lane as Reading and Brooklands Manchester University restoked their Premier Division rivalry that goes back to 1998-99. Tom Minall (FG22, FG64) and Fred Newbold (PC34, FG42) produced the firepower to give Reading a 4-2 victory over their visitors from the North, with Nick Hale (PC41) and Andrew Jackson (FG65) scoring for Brooklands Manchester University. Highlights from this game were not available unfortunately.

Old Georgians travelled to East Sussex on Saturday evening, beating East Grinstead 5-0 for the third consecutive time at Saint Hill. Matt Brown opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 26th minute before Alexander Fraser doubled the lead 8 minutes later. Sam Ward (38) and Brown (43) extended the lead further, both scoring penalty corners in the third quarter before Lee Morton (49) wrapped up the goals in the fourth. Surbiton and the University of Nottingham met on Saturday evening in a one-sided affair as Surbiton ran out 4-0 victors. Rob Farrington (28, 42) scored a brace from open play before Tom Sorsby made it three in the 52nd minute. With six minutes left to play, Gareth Furlong scored a trademark penalty corner to give the home side their sixth consecutive win. An exciting start to the match at Holcombe Park saw Holcombe take a two-goal lead versus the only side with a 100% record at the beginning of the day, Wimbledon. Nick Bandurak was the star of the show, putting his side ahead in the 6th minute before doubling his tally and the lead in the 18th. Wimbledon responded immediately after the second goal, with Peter Scott (20) pulling Wimbledon back into the game. An exciting end-to-end match was levelled in the 57th minute when Noah Darlington ensured the South West London club would maintain their unbeaten status and secure a share of the points. Hampstead & Westminster moved to within one point of Holcombe after beating the University of Exeter to maintain their perfect win rate in Devon. Sam French was the first on the scoresheet in the 2nd minute before Kei Kaeppeler (10), Hywel Jones (37) and James Oates (57) all added to the scoresheet for Hampstead. Beeston were the big movers in the division this week. Welcoming Brooklands Manchester University to the Nottingham Hockey Centre for a bottom-of-the-table clash, Jamie Golden left things until after the final whistle to score from a penalty corner to break the deadlock. With the game's last play, Golden fired home to give Beeston the all-important three points that saw them avoid their first goalless draw since March 2017. Oxted met Reading for the first time in the Premier Division in a vital match that both sides avoid defeat to stay in contention for the top six for Phase Two of the league. Matt Barnett (36) opened the scoring straight after the halftime break, catching Reading off guard to give Oxted the lead. With the match looking like it would end in a home win, Reading won a penalty corner with seconds to spare. Fred Newbold, fresh from the Sultan of Johor Cup in Malaysia, immediately returned to goal-scoring ways for Reading, firing past the Oxted defence to secure a share of the points.

Surbiton's second-half power was the difference in their match with East Grinstead on Saturday. Going into the halftime break with a 1-0 lead courtesy of an Alex Williams second minute penalty corner, Mark Pearn's wise words made all the difference as Surbiton upped the tempo in the second half. Adam Buckle started the onslaught in the 43rd minute before Luke Taylor scored the first of two penalty corners three minutes later. David Goodfield added another to take the score to 4-0. To pile the misery on further, Surbiton scored twice in a minute with Alex Williams (69) and Luke Taylor (69) with his second of the game to wrap things up with a 6-0 victory. After an opening day draw with Surbiton, Holcombe moved into second place with a 3-1 victory over Hampstead & Westminster. With all goals coming in the second half, Hayden Phillips opened the scoring in the 46th minute before Matt Guise-Brown drew things level with a trademark penalty corner. Tom Russell (60) and Nick Bandurak (63) added late goals for the hosts to secure all three points and take advantage of Old Georgians and Wimbledon being away on Euro Hockey League duty. The University of Nottingham and Brooklands Manchester University met in the Match of the Week. With both sides going into the match pointless, the University of Nottingham struck first through Louis Tipper (30). Andrew Jackson (53) pulled the game level for Brooklands MU, ensurting a tense final quarter. With time running out, and the match destined to end in a draw, University of Nottingham won a penalty corner. Conor Williamson stepped up and fired home as the final whistle went, sending the University of Nottingham back home with their first victory in the Premier Division. Rounding off the university sides' action in the Premier Division, the University of Exeter welcomed Oxted to Devon. With the game's only goal, Seb Ansley gave the home side all three points and their first win of the season. Beeston also benefitted from a late goal as they welcomed Reading to the Nottingham Hockey Centre. Balraj Panesar (35) scored with an open play tap-in five seconds before halftime. Harry Skinner (45) was on target for Reading to bring the scores level before Jamie Golden (61) gave Beeston the lead - and ultimately the victory - with nine minutes to go.

All eyes were on Sugden Road as the league leaders and Champions, Old Georgians, came to town in a top-of-the-table battle. Having won 5-1 the last time the two sides met, Old Georgians made it five consecutive victories over their closest challengers in the league. Ed Carson gave the visitors the lead in the 12 minutes before Luis Gittens restored parity two minutes later. A penalty corner goal from Henry Weir (35) just before halftime proved the decisive goal as the Old Georgians defence stood firm against the Surbiton onslaught. Oxted's chances of making the top six were taken out of their hands when they travelled to the Paddington Recreational Ground to face Hampstead & Westminster. Sam French's hattrick (8, 45-PC, 55-PC) and a Josh Kelly (12) goal gave the hosts a comfortable win to stay in contention in the chasing pack at the league's top. Cameron Heald with Oxted's only goal will be looking ahead to a must-win encounter with East Grinstead on the final day of Phase 1. East Grinstead are having a season to forget and will be looking forward to the winter break, where they can regroup and take stock ready for Phase 2. Welcoming the University of Nottingham to Saint Hill for the first time, with both sides struggling for points, the University side came out on top with their biggest win in the Premier Division. Charlie Axford gave Nottingham the lead with a fourth-minute penalty corner before Simon Faulkner converted one of his own six minutes later. Connor Williamson gave Nottingham the lead going into halftime with a 27th-minute penalty stroke, a lead that was extended further through penalty corner goals from Isaac Farrant (37) and Louis Tipper (52) to give their side all three points. At the foot of the table, Brooklands Manchester University welcomed Wimbledon to the North West, where the visitors improved their streak in Manchester to one loss in eight. David Flanagan (16, 31) gave the home side hope with two first-half goals after Peter Scott gave Wimbledon the lead. However, the visitors produced ten minutes in the second half that turned the game out of reach for the Manchester side. A three-minute Sam Hooper (50-PC, 53-PC) double and a 60th Liam Ansell Penalty Corner gave Wimbledon all three points and a happier journey back South. Gareth Griffiths was the killjoy of the Bandurak celebrations in Nottingham, as a 70th-minute penalty corner drew the scores level. Holcombe's Nick Bandurak scored his 200th goal for his club with his second hattrick of the season (22-PS, 24-PC, 59-PS). Oliver Ashdown (51) and Henry Croft (65) were also on the scoresheet for Beeston. Reading put a top sixth finish in their own hands, going into the last matchday of Phase 1, with a dominating win over the University of Exeter. Tom Minall scored his first, on the way to a hattrick, in the first-minute play, before adding to his tally in the 64th and 66th minutes. Fred Newbold (22) and Harrison Smith (53) completed the Reading scoring, while a 25-minute Joshua Moran penalty corner was the only mark on the Exeter scoresheet

It was goals galore in the Men's Premier Division week as Wimbledon equalled records for the most amount of goals by a single team in a match, as they hit 12 past the University of Nottingham. With Ed Horler opening the scoring in the first minute before adding a second and third, Nottingham truly had their backs to the wall throughout. Sam Hooper scored a hat-trick of penalty corner goals, whilst Jules Boumac hit a brace, and Jack Turner, Peter Scott, Ben Hooper and Johnny Sturch-Hibbitt were also on the scoresheet. Archie Foster scored a consolation goal late on for Nottingham to deny James Bailey a clean sheet. Holcombe secured their biggest win of the season so far when the University of Exeter travelled to Kent. Holcombe were clinical in front of the goal from the outset. Tim Guise-Brown scored the first of his penalty corner brace in the seventh minute, Barry Middleton was on the scoresheet for the first time this season, scoring Holcombe's second, before Rob Field and Nick Bandurak added to the scoreline before the half-time break. The second half continued in a similar fashion, with Tom Russell extending the lead in the 56th minute before Guise-Brown added his second. As the seconds ran down in the final minute, Billy Collins fired past Ollie Payne to deny Holcombe a clean sheet. Hayden Phillips responded immediately, scoring Holcombe's seventh of the game seconds later. Reading and Hampstead & Westminster rekindled one of the longest-running fixtures in the English Hockey Leagues as the two sides met at Sonning Lane. Going into the game, Reading knew that a top-six finish was still in their hands, as they came charging out of the block and raced into a 2-0 first-quarter lead through Daniel Cox (9) and Edward Evans (14), Joe Hillyer pulling one back just before the break for the visitors. The second quarter went the way of Hampstead as Sam French pulled his side level, scoring the only goal of the quarter. 2-2 at halftime, Reading had all to play for in the second half; Josh Kelly, however, had his side in the lead in the 41st minute as Reading's hopes of a top six place started to fade. Upping the ante and throwing everything forward, Reading equalised through Dan Cox with six minutes remaining. Reading countered Hampstead's attacks until a final-minute lapse in concentration was punished with the award of a penalty corner to Hampstead. Sam French stepped up and did what he does so often, firing past the opposition keeper. This time it was Chris Wyver in the Reading goal who had little to stop French from securing an away win. With Reading losing to Hampstead, the tables had turned, and the top 6 position was now in the hands of Beeston. A win, and they make the top tier for Phase 2; anything else and Reading finishes in sixth position. Meeting Surbiton for the 33rd time in the league, Beeston knew that winning for just the second time at Sugden Road would be a tough ask. Alex Williams (12) opened the scoring in what would be the only goal in a tight first half before Mark Pearn changed things around and gave his charges a renewed impetus for the second half. With three unanswered penalty corner goals, Surbiton raced into a 4-0 lead with Luke Taylor (43, 59) and Gareth Furlong (53) on the scoresheet before Tim Nurse (62) added a fifth. Beeston's Henry Croft added a late consolation goal from the penalty spot as his side suffered a 5-1 defeat and handed top six hockey to Reading on their first season back in the Premier Division. Old Georgians were also in a rich vein of form when they welcomed Brooklands Manchester University. Old Georgians are the team to beat, currently sitting at the top of all the charts, League, Top Goal Scorers and Golden Glove. Brooklands, who have had a tough season, had very little to stop the Sam Ward-inspired roaring Dragons. With Chris Proctor opening the scoring in the seventh minute, the match turned into the Sam Ward show as the England & GB hitman fired four past the Brooklands keeper, either side of Tom Carson's goal for the home side. Brooklands had a moment to cheer for themselves as Michael Parnham and David Flanagan found a way to beat George Pinner in the Old Georgians net. Oxted will undoubtedly be the most frustrated side in the Premier Division this week as they let a top six finish slip out of their hands. Oxted needed a win in their derby game Vs East Grinstead, who had lost all of their away matches this season. Struggling for form, East Grinstead had rallied hard for one final push before the season break and were rewarded just before halftime when Luke Mobley and Fin Boothroyd both scored within a minute to give the visitors a 2-0 halftime lead. Rob Murrage fired up his side with a 56th-minute penalty corner goal to give Oxted hope. However, East Grinstead were not in the mood to have their day ruined yet again and secured all three points and the bragging rights when Boothroyd added his second and East Grinstead's third.

As expected, the league table looked very different on Saturday evening, where Wimbledon held an overnight lead and Holcombe were close behind in second after their hard-fought 5-4 victory at Reading, with England star Nick Bandurak picking up a brace for his team. Wimbledon continued their home dominance over the University of Exeter with a comfortable 4-1 win. The University of Exeter took the lead in the 10th minute through a Jacob Payton penalty corner, scoring UoE's first-ever Premier Division away goal against Wimbledon. Liam Ansell opened the scoring for Karl Stagno's side in the 18th minute to restore parity before Ed Horler fired home from the penalty corner to give Wimbledon the lead going into the break. Goals from Ben Hooper (41) and Ben Francis (54) in the second half secured all three points for the hosts to keep the pressure on leaders Surbiton, now trailing by one point, with a game in hand. Hampstead & Westminster made it three consecutive victories at Saint Hill when they met East Grinstead on Saturday evening. Johnny Fleck (15) opened the scoring for the hosts, in a lead that lasted just over 10 minutes, before Rupert Shipperley (26) put his side on level terms. A trade mark penalty corner from Matt Guise-Brown (33) and a Joylon Morgan (42) open-play goal gave the visitors all three points in West Sussex. Sunday's fixtures saw the first Premier Division 0-0 draw since November 2018, when Oxted were held at home by the travelling University of Nottingham. On their last visit to Manchester, Surbiton beat Brooklands Manchester University by 12 goals, so they could be forgiven for going into the game with confidence. Louis Gittens set Surbiton on their way in the 20th minute in a match that ebbed and flowed throughout. David Flanagan (26) equalising before Gareth Furlong (39) restored Surbiton's lead from the penalty corner. Louis Gittens (48) was on hand again to extend the lead before Stefan Ray-Hills (51) reduced the deficit to one. Another Gareth Furlong penalty corner restored Surbiton's two-goal lead in the 55th minute before Daniel Vincent fired home two minutes later for the home side, 3-4 and all to play for with time running out. Surbiton held on to their lead and all three points to take them back to the top of the table. Surbiton's closest rivals, Old Georgians, travelled to the Nottingham Hockey Centre looking to make it four wins from four against Beeston in the Premier Divison. Wasting no time stamping their authority on the game, Sam Ward stepped up in the 6th minute to fire home from a penalty corner to give the Dragons the lead. Chris Griffiths (26) and James Albery (32) were on hand before halftime to extend the lead further. Sam Ward (57) scored his second, with James Tindall (64) rounding off the reigning champions' scoring.
